Crossovers

The Muppets were created by Jim Henson and his team of creatives over the course of several decades. As such, many characters belong to their own group based on the project they were developed for, sometimes expressed as a franchise or "universe" of stories. However, due to their origins, and despite changes in ownership over the years, the various collectives of Muppets have often been portrayed as members of a larger family. This page serves to document instances in which those worlds have crossed paths.

This page does not include examples of museum exhibits where propped puppets appear in the same room together (with the exception of live ceremonies in association with said exhibit) or instances where verbal mentions crossover with other Muppet projects which are documented in Category:Inside Jokes. The page also does not include cases of recycled puppets; characters here should be reasonably established rather than examples of when a puppet was reused for ancillary purposes.

	1975	The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence Bert appears in one of the "At the Dance" sequences dancing with a female Ernie lookalike.
	1977	The Muppet Show episode 102 After Ernie and Bert do their nose removal routine, Bert suspects they're expected to do an act. Ernie encourages him with the right clothes, prompting Bert to launch into an elegant dance number with Connie Stevens. Convinced he just made a complete fool of himself, Bert asks Ernie to take him home.
	1979	The Muppet Show episode 318 Big Bird meets Miss Piggy, performs a song with guest star Leslie Uggams, and fends off the romantic advances of Gonzo.
	1979	The Muppet Movie While singing "Movin' Right Along," Kermit and Fozzie bump into Big Bird walking on the side of the road. They offer him a lift, but Big Bird turns them down, "I'm on my way to New York City to try to break into public television."
	1979	The Muppet Movie Several dozens of characters from Sesame Street, Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, The Land of Gortch, and others appear singing "Rainbow Connection" during the finale.
	1980	The Muppet Show episode 518 When Fozzie Bear commands a cave door to "open sesame," Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, The Count, Grover, and two Anything Muppets join the song and dance. After the credits, they all join Statler and Waldorf in their box seats.
	1981	Here Come the Puppets! Sesame Street and Muppet Show characters appear together.
	1981	The Great Muppet Caper Oscar the Grouch makes "a very brief cameo" with Peter Ustinov.
	1982	I Love Liberty Ernie, Bert, and Grover appear as "The Spirit of '76" musicians in The Muppets' sketch about the Second Continental Congress. Big Bird introduces the segment, but does not appear with the other characters.
	1984	The Muppets Take Manhattan Several Sesame Street characters and Uncle Traveling Matt attend the wedding.
	1984	People's Choice Awards With Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock all nominated for the same award, characters from each show sit together at a table in the kitchen.
	1985	Night of 100 Stars Uncle Traveling Matt appears with Sesame Street and Muppet Show characters singing "New York, New York" in a stage bus.
	1986	The Muppets comic strip Oscar appears in the January 5, 1986 strip.
	1986	The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years The Muppets, Sesame Street characters, Sprocket, and Uncle Traveling Matt gather to celebrate thirty years of the Muppets.
	1986	The Television Academy Hall of Fame, 1986 Sesame Street and Muppet Show characters pay tribute to Burr Tillstrom.

	1987	A Muppet Family Christmas The Muppets and the casts of Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock gather at Ma Bear's country home to celebrate Christmas together.
	1988	Free to Be... a Family A pair of Honkers, Meryl Sheep, and Elmo make brief appearances.
	1989	Dog City A clothed Sprocket and Rowlf the Dog help round out the dog inhabitants of Dog City.
	1990	The Muppets at Walt Disney World Sprocket appears in the pet center at Walt Disney World.
	1990	The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson Several Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock characters join The Muppets to honor Jim Henson by singing "Just One Person."
	1992	The Jim Henson Hour "Secrets of the Muppets" Sprocket and the StoryTeller's dog feature as members of the Organization of Muppet Dogs. A Doozer also appears to help illustrate remote-controlled Muppets.
	c. 1997	The Animal Show "Bald Eagle" Sam the Eagle is the special guest in an episode focusing on bald eagles.
	c. 1998	Big Bag "Elmo's Visit" Elmo guest stars as Chelli's pen pal.
	1999	Jerry Nelson: A 65th Birthday Celebration Muppets from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, The Jim Henson Hour, and The Tale of the Bunny Picnic gather in a recording studio for a privately-distributed tribute to Jerry Nelson on his 65th birthday.
	2000	Muppet RaceMania Flange Doozer is unlockable as a playable character. The Gorgs can be seen through some holes in the Fraggle Rock level.
	2001	The Muppet Show Live Elmo joins the Muppets during the sing-along with Paul Williams.

	2012	Jim Henson's Musical World Although they did not appear on stage at the same time, the program showcased characters from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and Emmet Otter's Jug-band Christmas.
	2013	The Jim Henson Exhibition announcement Miss Piggy, Gobo Fraggle, and Oscar the Grouch appeared separately with NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg on stage in 2013 to announce the opening of the exhibit.
	2017	The Jim Henson Exhibition opening Abby Cadabby, Red Fraggle, and Fozzie Bear appeared together at the opening ceremony.
	2016	Puppets for Puppetry Gonzo, Rowlf the Dog, Red Fraggle, and various Henson Company puppets appeared together to honor Dave Goelz.

Non-Henson/Muppet productions

Just as crossovers have taken place within the various Muppet universes, so have the Muppets been inserted into the worlds of other properties that are completely unrelated to any Henson or adjacent properties. Note that this list is not merely appearances in media, but specifically those where Muppets are inserted into another fictional world and/or with other fictional characters. 	1990	Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue Baby Kermit, Baby Piggy, and Baby Gonzo appear alongside other Saturday morning cartoon characters.
	1991	Comic Relief Uncle Traveling Matt, Red Fraggle, and Sprocket appear representing Fraggle Rock, and Bean Bunny and another rabbit appear from The Tale of the Bunny Picnic, alongside many of England's famous puppets, including characters from Gophers! and Spitting Image.
	1991	The Torkelsons Elmo appears as a manifestation of Mary Sue Torkelson's plush Elmo doll.
	1998	Soul Man Big Bird gets Stan's son a backstage pass to watch him conduct the Boston Pops.
	1999	Cosby Elmo appears in the episode "Superstar."
	2001	Between the Lions "Tweet! Tweet!" Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie appear in the library with the cast.
	2001	Between the Lions "Dance with Smartypants" Bert and Elmo appear as celebrity guests for inserts from the second season.
	2001	Kidsnet Awards Kermit and Lamb Chop appear together at a ceremony honoring Joan Ganz Cooney, Lloyd Morrisett, and the late Jim Henson for their parts in creating Sesame Street.
	2002	"We Are Family" The casts of The Muppets, Sesame Street, and Bear in the Big Blue House appear alongside other children's television characters for the benefit music video. Barney and the cast of Between the Lions appear in the same scenes as Muppet characters, while other franchises also feature in the video.
	2003	Pittsburgh Puppet Conference Grover and Fozzie Bear appeared together in a mock conference with puppet characters Lamb Chop, Mr. Leonard Spencer Shelby, and Art Cat.
	2004	The West Wing Elmo, Big Bird, Zoe, Rosita and a Muppet doctor appear at The White House to film a PSA with First Lady Abby Bartlet (Stockard Channing).
	2006	Ready to Learn Several interstitials for the educational initiative feature PBS Kids characters interacting with the Sesame Street Muppets.
	2007	Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium Kermit appears as a shopper at the eponymous store.
	2007-2015	The Sunny Side Up Show Several Sesame Street Muppets have met Chica during appearances on the programming block.
	2009	Scrubs Elmo, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, and new Muppet Ex Ray appear in the episode "My ABCs."
	2009	Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian Regular Smithsonian puppet exhibit Oscar the Grouch is paired with Darth Vader when the museum comes to life at night.
	2012	30 Rock Kermit the Frog appears at the funeral of Jack's mother in the episode "My Whole Life is Thunder."
	2011	So Random Miss Piggy participates in several sketches as guest star of one episode.
	2013	Good Luck Charlie Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Animal, and some chickens appear in Teddy's dream convincing her that the old family home is really the house of her dreams.
	2023	Baby Shark Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Cookie Monster appear in animated form alongside Baby Shark and William.
