"Dance of the Hours" is a short ballet that appears in the third act finale of Amilcare Ponchielli's opera La Gioconda. One of the most well-known and parodied pieces of classical music, it has appeared in Disney's 1929 Silly Symphony short Springtime as well as the company's 1940 feature Fantasia, a 1949 Spike Jones record, and set to lyrics in Allan Sherman's 1963 hit novelty song "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)".

  • The Spike Jones recording was lip synced to on Sam and Friends on May 15, 1959.[1] The piece is punctuated by the usual Jones' sound effects, followed by comedian Doodles Weaver with punning commentary on an auto race. City Slickers musicians included trumpeter George Rock, Freddy Morgan on banjo, and clarinetist Jack Golly[2] (who vocalized as Poison Pete on "Wild Bill Hiccup," also used on Sam and Friends).
