Daniel Boone (1734-1820) was a frontiersman who pioneered the settling of Kentucky. He fought during the American Revolution and engaged in campaigns against Native Americans. As his actual exploits were embellished and exaggerated into myth, Daniel Boone become an American folk hero.
Television conflated aspects of his persona with Davy Crockett, particularly headgear. Actor Fess Parker, who played Crockett on the 1950s "Frontierland" episodes of the Disney TV show, kept the coonskin cap associated with Crockett when starring on Daniel Boone (1964-1970), with a theme song emphasizing that Daniel Boone was a big man.
