David Velasquez (1946โ1994) was a costume designer who worked for the Muppet Workshop during the mid-late 1980s. For his work on Sesame Street, Velasquez shared in on an Emmy Award win in 1986, and was part of another nomination in 1987.
A graduate of Southwest Texas State University and a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam, Velasquez had previously taught costume design at the University of New Mexico from 1980 to 1983. Velasquez's other design jobs included the television series Blossom (for which he designed costumes for the male characters) and Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as various feature films, before his retirement in 1992.
The book Quilting with the Muppets is dedicated to his memory, along with several others including Christine Moyes, Richard Hunt, and Jim Henson.
