Denise James (1928–1995) was a writer who was credited as such on Sesame Street during the latter part of season 5.[1]
A native of the Bronx and a graduate of New York City's Hunter College, James had a 46-year career as a writer, penning fiction and non-fiction; articles for Good Housekeeping, Esquire, and Pageant; and working as an advertising copywriter (joining Marquardt & Roche, Inc. in 1976 after her brief Sesame stint).
In 1962, James' then-husband, former advertising man Stephen D. James, founded the organization Citizen Exchange Corps (now known as CEC ArtsLink), whose goal was to ease Cold War-era tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union via cultural exchanges.
