Die Muppets gehen ins Kino ("The Muppets Go to the Movie Theater") is the name of both German dubs of The Muppets Go to the Movies. As with Die fantastische Miss Piggy Show (the 1982 special The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show), and with Die große Muppet-Party (the 1986 special The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years), two German dubs exist of this production:

First Dub[]

The first dub aired on ZDF on September 26, 1982, featuring the original voices from Die Muppet Show. In this dub, a few things are notable:

  • The guest stars' subtitle sketch "Invasion of the Unpleasant Things from Outer Space," as well as Kermit's introduction and Statler and Waldorf's reaction joke, are cut (though the set still does appear during the finale musical number.)
  • Miss Piggy's first verse of "Over the Rainbow" remains in English, but the song turns to German after Rowlf's interruption.
  • "The First Time It Happens" remains in English.
  • Gummo Bergman's art film "Silent Strawberries" retains the original English voices, with only Sam the Eagle being dubbed.
  • Kermit's voice during the "Steppin' Out with a Star" clip is performed by an unknown voice artist, as is one of Sam's lines after "Silent Strawberries."
  • The finale, "We'll Meet Again," remains in English.

Second Dub[]

When the special aired a second time, on RTL on October 2, 1997, a new second dub was produced. The dub features a mix of some of the previously used voices, as well as some of the second set of voices used since Die Muppets Weihnachtsgeschichte (the 1992 film The Muppet Christmas Carol). Notable differences:

  • All of the characters' lines are slightly changed.
  • The previously cut scenes are restored...
  • ...though, this dub omits the intermittent UK commercial bumper cards after both the silent film sketch, and after the taxi scene from The Great Muppet Caper. Both had been present in the first dub.

Neither one of the two dubs was ever released on home video.
