Dirk appears in the Sesame Street soap opera The Sounds of Our Lives (parodying Days of Our Lives). In it, he has a very important question to ask his sweetheart, Deirdre, but before he can get the words out, he is cut off mid-sentence by various household sounds. After this happens thrice, he demands to know what the big idea is, and Deirdre simply tells him that these are the sounds of our lives. This answer does nothing to cool Dirk down. He tells Deirdre that he has one more sound for her and then runs out of the house, slamming the door behind him, and leaving Deirdre totally confused.
