Doc Severinsen (b. 1927) is a jazz trumpeter and conductor most well known for leading the NBC Orchestra on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He would sometimes sit in for Ed McMahon as Johnny Carson's co-host.
As a studio musician for NBC, he also accompanied Steve Allen, Eddie Fisher, Dinah Shore, Kate Smith, and others. He was a musician on dozens of studio albums and recorded on several soundtracks including Satan in High Heels, Nude on the Moon, Designing Women, and Happy Birthday, Bob. He also appeared in a few bit on-screen roles for The Bionic Woman, Bonanza, and the parody film Fatal Instinct (with Tony Randall).

- In the special Out to Lunch, Cookie Monster hosts a Tonight Show parody talk show. During his monologue, he calls out to "Doc," shown to be Luis Avalos dressed as a doctor.
- A "Trivial But True" title card for The Muppet CD-ROM: Muppets Inside reads, "Doc Severinsen is not a real doctor. We don't even know if he's certified in C.P.R. If you become ill in his presence, it would probably be best to call 911."
