"Doin' the Snuffleupagus" is a Sesame Street song sung by Mr. Snuffleupagus. The lyrics are similar to the song, "The Hokey Pokey", and varied both in terms of what body part is "put out" and by suggesting alternatives to the line "and you leave it there." The verses include right foot, snuffle, and left foot. For non-Snuffleupaguses who have no snuffle, they can use their arm instead.
Beginning in Episode 0313, an instrumental version of the song would often accompany Snuffy when he enters a scene (and occasionally when he exits). A different instrumental of the song appears in Episode 2096 over a montage of Big Bird's attempts to convince the adults of Snuffy's existence.
The song was performed on the show a number of times, including Episode 0377, 0409, 0480, 1328, 3181, 3401, and 3745. In the 35th anniversary special, The Street We Live On, Snuffy and Big Bird, along with some kids, perform an upbeat version of the song while teaching the dance to Elmo through his email.
