Don Harron (1924-2015) was a Canadian actor and comedian best known for his grizzled rustic character Charlie Farquharson. While the character was originally an Ontario farmer first portrayed by Harron on Canadian radio and TV in 1952, his rural comedy fit in well on Hee Haw as the local newscaster on KORN.
Harron began as a dramatic actor on radio in the 1930s, extensively for the CBC as well as a guest lead on the CBS series Studio One (in "Ah, Wilderness!") He had guest star roles on US drama series in the 1960s including Dr. Kildare, The Fugitive, Mission: Impossible, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Outer Limits, and The Wonderful World of Disney. On Broadway, he was in the original casts of the straight plays Separate Tables and Everybody Loves Opal (with James Coco). Returning to Canada after Hee Haw, his last credits include reprising Charlie Farquharson in three episodes of The Red Green Show and a guest appearance on Puppets Who Kill (with Dan Redican).
