| PATTERN | Longsnout |
Ed Longsnout is one of Earl Sinclair's WESAYSO work buddies on Dinosaurs. While usually just part of the job site atmosphere, he teaches Robbie Sinclair the finer points of not working in "Career Opportunities," watches TV with the family and joins in a burping contest in "Unmarried... with Children," and dramatically offers Earl the choice of a danish during a heated ideological debate in "Nuts to War" part 1. His most significant role was in "A New Leaf," in which the happy plant induces paranoia and causes him to assume others are talking about him.
In early episodes such as "The Golden Child," his work nametag reads "Young" (after Bob Young). Later episodes (when not using the generic "SHOP") list him as Longsnout, as does the employee golf tournament roster in "The Discovery" (in which he doesn't actually appear).
By the third season, Ed was gone from the workplace, with Gus used more often in his place. However, the Unisaur type continued to appear frequently in other capacities, often still voiced by Lanoil. The scripts typically used merely "Ed" to note the generic Unisaur if another name wasn't used in dialogue. As a result, a couple of Longsnout type Unisaur characters in the final season, the DSN host in "Earl, Don't Be a Hero" and the Foto-Fast clerk in "Scent of a Reptile," are identified in the closing credits as "Ed."
