Dancers at the Barre

Edgar Degas (1834-1917) was a French painter and sculptor known for his paintings of dancers and racetracks.

  • Degas' sculpture Little Dancer of Fourteen Years is seen in the opening credit sequence of the Sesame Street special, Don't Eat the Pictures. Linda and two kids observe the statue and position themselves akin to the dancer.
  • A Sesame Street insert animates one of Degas' variations of his painting Dancers at the Barre, as Zoe narrates. (First: Episode 4140)
