The Talk 'n Play was an interactive toy first produced in 1984 by Child Guidance, and later by Playskool. The toy was an audio cassette player with four extra color-coded "Answer Buttons". When verbally prompted, pressing one of the Answer Buttons allowed the listener to hear one of four responses. Each Talk 'n Play cassette was paired with an illustrated book, with color-coding for each of the Answer Button prompts. The toy could also be used as a regular tape recorder for listening, and it contained a built-in microphone for recording.
At least six Sesame Street book-and-tape sets were released for the Talk 'n Play:
- Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street? (included with new Talk 'n Play units)
- A Silly Sesame Street Story: The Three Little Pigs
- Loveable, Furry Old Grover in Please Don't Push the Red Button
- Big Bird's Alphabet Book
- Let's Play School
- Bert and Ernie's Band
There was also a Muppet book-and-tape set called Opening Day at Peppermint Park.
