Elio Zamuto on Classe di ferro in 1989
Elio Zamuto is an Italian actor who dubbed Statler beginning in 2020 with Muppets Haunted Mansion: La casa stregata (Muppets Haunted Mansion).
Zamuto had a long career in Italian film and television, particularly crime dramas, beginning with small roles in the 1960s. By the 1970s, his most prominent period, he usually had major supporting roles. He alternated between the law (police, judiciary and lawyers, and similar officials) and often larger parts as gangsters, criminals, and other villains. In 1972, in addition to various police roles (including the Bud Spencer movie Terino Nera), he portrayed Fascist party official Italo Balbo in Girolimoni, il mostro di Roma. He played an honest judge in Il testimone deve tacere, a less scrupulous politician in Perché si uccide un magistrato, a police detective again in Milano violenta, and a smuggling ring boss in Il mammasantissima. Zamuto also had roles in sex comedies and the horror movie La lupa mannara. He was a regular on the first season of the TV military comedy Classe di ferro as the camp colonel.
Zamuto entered dubbing in the 1970s, notably lending his voice to Frank Langella in Dracula and Abe Vigoda in The Godfather and sequel, but became busiest beginning in the 1980s when he dubbed Tom Selleck on Magnum, P.I. (while also directing the dub). He dubbed Morgan Freeman in London Has Fallen, Orson Welles in Macbeth, Philip Baker Hall in The Truman Show, Bernie Casey in Live and Let Die, F. Murray Abraham in the live-action Lady and the Tramp, and the character Nute Gunray in the Star Wars prequels. On TV, he dubbed Ralph Waite on The Waltons, Tony Lip on The Sopranos, Jerry Orbach on Murder, She Wrote, and Horst Tappert on the German series Derrick. Cartoon roles include Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings, Lord Redbrick in Gnomeo & Juliet, and Coran on Voltron: Legendary Defender.
