Elmo's Monster Factory was a boutique at FAO Schwarz's 30 Rockefeller location. It opened in late 2020.
Modeled after the Muppet Whatnot Workshop, the installation featured four different blank Sesame Street monster hand puppets that could be customized with various facial features, such as different sets of eyes, eyebrows, mustaches, horns, and (battery-powered) noses that provide sounds when pressed. All features could be moved and interchanged due to their Velcro backing. When ordered online, all available features were initially included.
Monster bodies were available in red, pink, green, and blue, with each color dictating the monster's head shape. Each puppet came with a clear drawstring bag to hold the body and accessories.
