Picture Segment Description
Elmosfish
Guess what Elmo's thinking about today? Elmo's room fills up with water and he swims around with some Muppet fish, who tickle him with their tails. A montage follows of fish in various settings and children with fish crafts and toys.
Ewfish-dorothy
Dorothy's Question Elmo dries himself off and says that Dorothy (who has a swordfish decoration in her fishbowl) already knows about fish, but she wants to know how non-fish creatures pretend to be one.
Ewfish-noodle
The Noodle Family Mr. Noodle's brother Mr. Noodle pretends to be a dog and a chicken before acting like a fish. All he's missing is some water, so he gets drenched with some!
Ewfish-baby
Kids and Baby Kids show how they pretend to be a fish. Elmo then asks a baby with a plush fish.
Ewfish-count
Elmo's Question Elmo asks the viewer to help him count a series of four cartoon fish that come out from each other's mouths. They swallow each other up when a shark appears, but the remaining fish ends up eating the shark in one bite!
Ewfish-quiz
Quiz Elmo asks questions about where fish live. Fish don't live in a school bus or a birthday cake, but they can live in a river. Fish don't live in a stroller or a car, but do live in a lake. Dorothy doesn't live in the ocean or a raindrop; she lives in a fishbowl with Elmo.
Ewfish-email
Video E-Mail Telly shows Elmo his new fish, which oddly looks just like him. (Fish: "How 'bout that?")
Ewfish-film
Film Elmo's friend Brandon narrates as he and his dad go to an aquarium (Atlantis Marine World, now Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead, NY). They see fish from different parts of the world of all shapes, sizes, and colors, and even get to feed some rays.
Ewfish-cartoon
TV Cartoon The Fish Channel shows Bubbles Martin learning and singing about "How Do Fishes Move?" Stay tuned for Name That Tuna, Sixty Minnows, and Touched by an Angelfish.
Ewfish-interview
Interview Elmo's room floods with water again as he talks with fish - a Kingfish to be precise. His Majesty tells Elmo about the various parts fish have, like his royal tail, royal fins, and royal gills.
Elmoblowfish

Elmoflyingfish

Elmopilotfish
Tickle Me Land Dorothy imagines Elmo as a pufferfish (puffing himself up until he blows himself away), a flying fish (diving in and out of the water), and a deep-sea anglerfish (using his light to read his book of fish stories).
EW-FishSong
The Fishes Song Elmo and the fish sing "The Fishes Song."

Notes[]

  • Elements present in early script drafts for the segment include:[1]
    • Instead of the room filling with water, Door opens to reveal an aquarium of fish. Elmo rushes towards it, not realizing there's a glass barrier.
    • The counting segment went up eight fish, and the final large animal was instead a whale.
    • Elmo's question for Drawer was about what other things can swim in water. Birthday cakes and sinks don't swim, but elephants (with their trunks) and swim suits can. Grover would appear as the final question, showing how well he can swim in a pool (the shallow end, at least). In revised drafts, the question is whether Dorothy lives with Elmo, Super Grover, or Frazzle.
    • The e-mail was originally sent by Baby Bear, learning how to catch fish at a river's edge with Papa Bear.
    • Rather than the Kingfish, Elmo initially talks with an ordinary fish situation in a tank behind Shade. In order to converse with the fish, Elmo dons an air helmet and dives into the tank. As they chat, they encounter a "blue fish," who feels very sad. In later revisions, the Kingfish is joined by an octopus performing fanfares.
    • Dorothy originally imagines Elmo as a lobster (playing his claws like castanets), a whale, and a clam.
  • Initial airings of this segment had harp music stings playing in-between the kids' fish demonstrations.
