Guess what Elmo's thinking about today? | Elmo opens his closet to discover a giant mound of hats, which tumble out. A montage of children in various hats follows.
Dorothy's Question | Dorothy has a tiny cowboy hat in her bowl. She wants to know how to put on a hat.
The Noodle Family | Mr. Noodle (against a plainer background than usual) puts his hat on his elbow, upside down on his head, then puts the hat on the floor and tries to somersault into it but it gets stuck to his bottom. Eventually he magically suspends it in midair and then jumps up into it, but is left floating in the air.
Kids and Baby | Kids show how they put on hats. Elmo gives a hat to a baby, who waves it in the air.
Elmo's Question | Elmo asks the viewer to help him count how many gallons of water fit into a 10-gallon hat (eleven!)
Quiz | Elmo asks who wears hats and who doesn't. Mailboxes don't, and birthday cakes don't but kids at birthday parties do. Guinea pigs don't, but they could. Grover doesn't, but Super Grover does.
Film | Elmo's friend Nicole makes a construction paper hat with her mother. Afterward, Elmo is wearing that hat.
TV Cartoon | The Hat Channel features "Why People Wear Hats." Coming up, "Bowlers for Dollars," and "Love Boater."
The closing line is "Hat's all, folks!", another play on the Looney Tunes closing "That's all, folks!"
Interview | Elmo interviews a bowler hat and learns about the parts of a hat. A crash helmet and a baseball hat also stop by.
Tickle Me Land | Dorothy imagines Elmo playing baseball, working at a construction site (hard hat), doing a magic act with a top hat (Benny Rabbit makes a cameo), and being shot out of a cannon during a circus show (crash helmet.)
Home Video | Elmo shows a video he made of "How To Keep Your Hat Warm."
The Hat Song | Elmo sings the "Hat Song." |
Notes[]
- The Quiz segment was edited for its release on Head to Toe with Elmo. The music cue of "Anything Goes" is replaced with the "Jingle Bells" tune (used to close every episode), and the birthday cake and guinea pig sections are cut out entirely.
- At the end of the Hats song, Elmo sings "That's Elmo's Song!" rather than "That's Elmo's World!"
