Picture Segment Description
Guess what Elmo's thinking about today? Elmo opens his door and sees Niagara Falls (via stock footage). A video montage of kids using water in different ways follows.
Dorothy's Question Dorothy (who doesn't need a figurine in her bowl this time) wants to know how people swim in water.
The Noodle Family Mr. Noodle, wearing flippers and floaties, attempts to swim in a small wading pool. First he only dips his feet in, but ends up swimming in midair and belly-flopping into the pool.
Kids and Baby Kids are seen in various stages of learning to swim - with parents, with water wings, and unassisted. When Elmo asks a baby, she splashes in a baby bathtub.
Elmo's Question Elmo wants to know how many raindrops are falling from the animated clouds; there becomes too many to count!
Quiz What lives in water? Dorothy and other fish do. Horses do not, but seahorses do. Telly does not... but he would if he were a fish!
Film Elmo narrates as a little girl named Jordan uses water to brush her teeth, rinse, wash her face, make oatmeal, feed her dog Buddy, water the plants, take a bath, and drink during the night.
TV Cartoon The Water Channel shows Why Water? hosted by the Lecture Lady, who explains who and what needs water. Coming up next: As The Faucet Drips and Wetwork News.
Interview Elmo talks to a glass of water, who is sometimes hot or cold but always wet. He says that water can be found anywhere.

Tickle Me Land Dorothy imagines Elmo as a sailor fishing on the side of his ship, scuba diving, and surfing.
Home Video Elmo has made a video called Dorothy In Water, since she knows more about living in water than anybody.
The Water Song Elmo sings the "Water Song" with the glass of water.

Notes[]

  • This episode marks the first of many instances that past segments have not included. It is the first episode in which an adult appears during the Ask A Baby segment, and in which Elmo asks the kids "yes" or "no" questions during the Quiz. It is also the first episode to use footage from a previous Sesame Street segment, as a clip from "Washin' the Dog" is used during the montage, as well as the first where the kids give a demonstration of the subject outside of a limbo setting.
  • In the broadcast version of the segment, TV's entrance and exit mimicking a submarine is underscored by an instrumental of "Yellow Submarine." The home video release alters the audio due to music rights.
  • Footage recorded for the film segment of Jordan bathing would also be used for a season 30 insert in which kids are shown playing in the bathtub as Ernie sings "Rubber Duckie."
