SCENE 1 Gordon, Bob, and Susan find that Hooper's Store is closed, and observe several packages on the doorstep. Susan, having come from the bakery, overheard that Mr. Hooper's sister had a cake made for him. The packages at the door must be presents, ergo, it must be Mr. Hooper's birthday. They decide to give him a surprise party. When Mr. Hooper shows up, they pretend not to know that it's his birthday, which offends him.

She says she also added some pickle syrup, which makes him want more, and finally chocolate-covered seaweed, making him want the most.
