As they talk quietly, Oscar finally finishes his book and encourages them to talk loudly. He explains that his book says that one way to lose friends is to complain a lot, and having them bother him will certainly cause him to complain. Instead, the group decides to continue speaking quietly as they leave, disappointing Oscar.
