Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Big Bird sees how things are going in the Fix-It Shop. Rafael has a marble top awaiting its owner and Big Bird suggests telephoning them to see when they can pick it up. Big Bird thinks the phone is broken by the weird noise it makes, but Rafael assures him it's only the dial tone. He puts the marble top down and almost drops it, but thankfully it isn't broken. However, when Big Bird doesn't hear the dial tone, they find out the marble top broke the phone cable. Although Rafael is good at repairs, it is recommended that the repairmen from the phone company fix it. He goes over to Hooper's Store to use their phone, while Big Bird plots a way to help Rafael.

SCENE 3 Big Bird and Rafael watch as the repairman replaces the broken phone wire. Now that the phone is working, Rafael is able to call the owner of the marble top. However, he's unable to stop Big Bird from using his bullhorn to alert the neighborhood that the phone is fixed.

They all play Snuffy's favorite game, "London Bridge." Big Bird steps out to fetch the adults, but they brush him off, as they're too busy fixing a bike. Back in the nest, he decides that the other kids know Snuffy is real, so it doesn't matter what the grown-ups think. Notes[]

  • The script features a different scenario for Scene 5 that does not appear in the final episode. Big Bird prepares some tea for himself and Mr. Snuffleupagus. He invites Gordon to stay and meet him, but Gordon isn't convinced he's anything beyond imaginary. He does, however, agree to stop by later for some tea and instructs Big Bird to beckon him when it's ready. After he exits, Snuffy lumbers in and states he can't stay too long. Big Bird calls out for Gordon, but he can't hear him. Snuffy uses his snuffle to let out a loud whistle, which Gordon hears, but makes him confused. Big Bird resolves to get Gordon himself, and Snuffy goes back home a moment after Big Bird exits. Gordon is brought back to the nest and assumes the whistling sound came from Big Bird's tea kettle.
