Picture Segment Description
SCENE 1 Big Bird hears the sound of Joey playing his drum in the Fix-it Shop. Big Bird loves drums, even to the point of standing around waiting for a parade just to hear them. ("You know, there's not many parades some days," he observes.) Big Bird becomes inspired to build a drum exactly like Joey's.
Cartoon "The J Commercial:" Two boys scrutinize a J, saying it looks like a fish-hook. A resonant voice (Gary Owens) informs them that it's the letter J. This leads to a jazzy story about Joe. Moral: "Don't jive a judge by jamming a junebug."

SCENE 2 Big Bird thinks he has finished building his own drum, and starts to play it. It doesn't make any noise, and Luis points out that while they may look the same, his drum doesn't have any sides like Joey's does. Big Bird continues working on his drum.

SCENE 3 Big Bird has finished making his drum, but has trouble trying not to drop it. Luis shows that Joey's drum has a strap attached to it, but points out that he doesn't need one in order to still have fun with his drum. Luis celebrates by playing his guitar. Big Bird becomes awestruck at the instrument and throws down his drum, declaring he's now going to make a guitar.
Cartoon A drummer precedes C.T. Wordsworth who presents today's word: STREET. He sings about it with a boy who wears a crown.

SCENE 6 Gordon is grading some papers, but the point of his pencil breaks. He is about to sharpen it when Sam the Robot offers to be a pencil-sharpening machine for him. Gordon inserts all his pencils into Sam's front slot, and Sam returns them all trimmed to little stubs. Gordon can't work with such short pencils, so Sam obliges by producing a long, yet oversized, pencil. Fed up, Gordon leaves to get some regular pencils from Hooper's Store.

The voice then asks for a black man to raise his hand (David and Gordon). Finally, the voice asks for the black man wearing a tie to raise his hand, which leaves only Gordon.
