SCENE 1 Riding his delivery cart, Mr. Hooper stops in front of Oscar as he begins to conduct an orchestra inside his trash can, the Grouch Philharmonic. Instead of musical instruments, the members of the orchestra make the sounds of a train played by Melbourne, an airplane played by Brisbane, and a fire engine played by Tasmania.

Muppets Ernie & Bert — Ernie and Bert go to bed, but they hear water dripping. Bert asks Ernie to do something about the sound, so Ernie puts the radio on to drown out the dripping sound. But that doesn't work, so Ernie also turns on the vacuum cleaner. When Bert finally gets the vacuum cleaner, the radio, and the water off, he finally can go to sleep...until he hears Ernie snoring.

Snuffy also points out that Snuffleupagus begins with S, so Big Bird asks him to hide so he can surprise Maria. Big Bird brings Maria into his nest area so she can meet Snuffy, but he's nowhere to be seen. Big Bird insists that he's hiding and will come out soon. After Maria scoffs and leaves the nest, Snuffy jumps out and yells, "Surprise!"

The clock chimes four times, as Luis expected. The Count isn't interested in it telling time, so he makes an adjustment in the back and tests it again. Now, the clock chimes continuously so that the Count can continue counting them.
