SCENE 1 The camera pans around Sesame Street looking for someone. Luis jumps out from behind the work bench in front of the Fix-It Shop and yells, "surprise!" He tip-toes around luring the camera to follow him until the reach the Hooper's Store window where Mr. Hooper jumps out in surprise. He joins Luis tip-toeing around together, but they don't find anyone else. They head back to the store where Cookie Monster is inside, unattended, and he's just finished eating a batch of cookies. He extatically declares, "Surprise!"

Muppets A woman (Jim Henson) volunteers to assist The Amazing Mumford in his surprise magic trick. Mumford makes her disappear – but when he tries to make her reappear, Herry Monster pops up, saying "SURPRISE!"

SCENE 2 Grover is out walking in the snow with his earmuffs and scarf, when he happens upon a female version of himself made out of snow in the yard. Stricken by her beauty, Grover approaches her and tries to carry on a conversation with her, but finds that she's really the silent type. Getting cold standing around in one spot, he invites her to go in Hooper's Store for a cup of hot cocoa. He tries to take her hand, but finds that her hands are like ice. Promising to warm her up, he tells her not to go away, and rushes off.

Luis is worried Big Bird will try to help customers on his own, so he's closing up shop just for a few minutes, and instructs him not to let anyone in. While Big Bird sits in the shop alone, he notices all the sounds he can hear in the relative quiet. He begins with the ticking of the clock, until he can hear someone wiping the snow off their feet at the door. Luis has returned and tries to get in, but he's locked himself out. Big Bird points out all the sounds he makes trying to get in, and eventually tells him he'll have to wait outside for a few minutes until the shop opens again.
