In the original script treatment, the scene plays out differently. Big Bird has drawn a picture of a top and wishes to caption it with the word, but can't remember what letter makes the "tuh" sound. Alphabet Bates flies overhead and makes the letter T to remind him.

SCENE 2 Luis sees that the awning for the Fix-It Shop has started come loose and could fall at any moment. He puts up a DANGER sign to keep people away while he fetches a ladder. Big Bird goes under the awning to see the sign and starts making sure people avoid the area, unaware of the impending awning that could strike his head. Luis finally rushes out and pulls Big Bird away, just before the awning falls. Big Bird warns him that he needs to put up a sign to steer people away from such a thing.

When a voice (Jerry Nelson) asks "Who made this mess?" each one of them denies that it was them, saying they only dropped a small amount of garbage on the street. Soon, however, they realize that they each contributed to the mess in one way or another and pick up what they dropped. The voice then tells them to put the trash in a trash can instead of on the ground.

SCENE 3 Maria brings an old rocking chair home from the Salvation Army. She can't keep the door open long enough to carry the chair through, however. She notices a nearby rock sitting on a pile of newspapers and uses that to prop open the door. Just as she does so, she hears her phone ringing and rushes up to her apartment to answer it. Oscar pops up from his can and notices his favorite rock is gone, which he uses as a paperweight on the newspapers. He sees the rocking chair and thinks it will make a fine substitute.
