David and Susan tell him not to worry since he can do things that other birds can't, like talk. Big Bird sees a jet plane soar overhead, and gets the idea to build his own airplane so he can fly.

SCENE 2 Luis sees the makeshift box airplane Big Bird has just built, only some of its parts are in the wrong places. He uses a diagram to make sure that the tail, wings, propeller, and steering wheel all go in the right places. Big Bird climbs into it, but his sense of direction gets mixed-up as he sits in the plane facing the other way.

SCENE 3 Luis and Susan mutter to each other about how Big Bird's plane really can't take off. Nonetheless, they help him go over his checklist, making sure he's adjusted his scarf and his horn is in working order. Luis turns the propeller to start the plane, which ends up discharging smoke and actually gets off the ground! The grown-ups watch in disbelief during Big Birdโ€™s flight, which ends up short-lived as he crash lands almost immediately into a tree, destroying his plane.

Herbert hears Cookie Monster approaching, and hides to observe him. Cookie investigates the machine for a moment, then gets the cookies by karate-chopping the glass cover.
