He counts over twenty of them as the carousel quickly spins, but Bob and Susan point out that he is actually counting the same five horses over and over. SCENE 3 The Count is still ashamed of his mistake as he stops by Hooper's Store, even going as far as cutting his entrance music short. He asks David for some ice cream, but doesn't bother to count the number of scoops he is given. He tells David about making a mistake and lists some of his past achievements, including being number one in the king's counting house, adding up pages for great authors, and counting Hank Aaron's home runs. David gets an idea and pretends to count magazines and boxes of cookies poorly. The Count gives David some pointers since he's the expert, and David encourages him to realize that nobody else can count like him and helps him get back into the flow. They start slow with the Count's three scoops of ice cream, and soon he is back in business counting the cherries, his spoon, and drinking glasses.
