SCENE 1 | The Count arrives at Hooper's Store, looking for something to count. He counts the sweeps Mr. Hooper makes with a broom and the drinking glasses he polishes, but finds that they aren't nearly enough to satisfy his passion. Mr. Hooper sets out a jar of gumballs, and the Count asks if he knows just how many candies he has. Mr. Hooper says it’s exactly 200; it's what the box said and he hasn't sold any of them yet. Mr. Hooper is getting a little tired of the Count's prodding and suggests he can just count plain numbers, but The Count explains that he needs amounts of something to count, saying it would be like peanut butter without jelly. He latches onto an idea, and starts counting more comparisons such as lemonade without lemons, Batman without Robin, Hank Aaron without his bat... | |
