SCENE 1 Today is Gordon and Susan's anniversary. Unbeknownst to Gordon, Susan has taken the day off and is preparing a surprise anniversary dinner in Maria's apartment. They scale down the fire escape to avoid being seen by Gordon. Susan goes to Hooper's Store to get a few things, while Maria remains outside to keep Gordon away. As Susan makes her escape, Gordon mentions to Maria and David that he's preparing an anniversary dinner surprise as well, thinking Susan is at work. Watching the two sneak away in their own ways, Maria wonders if they should have said something to the couple. David replies that they can swing by later and get some free dinner.

Lance and Fred agree that Gordon doesn't belong because he's a person. Duke excuses himself, feeling he doesn't belong because he's a royal horse compared to the other three commoners.
