SCENE 1 David arrives at Hooper's Store to take over for Mr. Hooper, and tells him and Maria about the great movie he recently saw: The Ketchup Men from Mars. David excitedly describes the plot, but Maria has seen it and thinks it was the dumbest movie she ever watched. Mr. Hooper has seen the movie as well, and David and Maria ask for his opinion on it. Mr. Hooper refuses to take sides on the matter, pointing out that their opinions are both valid and that he shouldn't be pulled into their disagreement.

SCENE 4 David drops off Hooper's Store's new but broken toaster with Maria, who assures him she can fix the little spring inside in about a minute. As she leaves to get a screwdriver inside the Fix-It Shop (placing the toaster underneath the outside workbench), Luis arrives and shows the viewer a very beat-up toaster Gordon gave him, which looks very similar to the one David brought over. He plans on salvaging some of the parts and places it on the workbench before going inside and getting his tools. When David retrieves his toaster and finds the beat-up one, he is appalled and takes it back to the store, worried what Mr. Hooper will think of his "new" toaster. Maria comes back out and starts working on David's actual toaster, which stuns Luis as he thinks she's just fixed the beat-up one he had. After Luis and David chat about Maria's "work," Maria shows up with David's toaster fully repaired. David pulls out Luis' beat-up one at the same time; Maria comments that nobody is good enough to fix something like that. The men shower Maria with praise and kisses, which she bewilderedly accepts.
