Picture Segment Description


SCENE 1 Big Bird rummages through his toybox and finds a two-week old letter that he forgot to deliver to David. Just then, David’s grandmother Grace arrives at the bus stop and claims authorship of the letter that Big Bird forgot to send, which told David about her arrival today. They both go to Hooper's Store to see him and encounter Mr. Hooper instead, who recalls that David is out today buying a pair of shoes. While Big Bird goes to fetch him, Grace and Mr. Hooper show each other pictures of their families.

As Big Bird makes his way there, Maria meanwhile has difficulty fixing an odd-looking contraption, which Grace identifies as an apple peeler. She tightens a loose screw, then shows Maria how it works using an apple saved for her lunch.

SCENE 3 Big Bird didn’t find David at the library, and asks Oscar where David might be. Oscar (from within his trash can) says he went to the park, so Big Bird tells Maria and Grace that's where he's headed next. As Maria leaves for school, Grace decides to chat with Oscar, claiming he's an old friend. Oscar lightens up when he sees Grace acting grouchy toward him (calling her a "regular ol' picklepuss") and she assists him in finding just the right rhymes for a love poem he's making to a girl Grouch he doesn't care for.

SCENE 4 Grace visits Bob right after he finishes a music lesson with Julia. Bob remembers that today is usually his laundry day, and tells Big Bird from his apartment window. While Big Bird goes to investigate, Grace finds some old sheet music in Bob's pile of papers and requests a duet with Bob, who plays the piano while they sing “An Old-Fashioned Song.” Afterward, Bob proposes that she and him can put a song-and-dance act together on the road.

SCENE 5 Everyone mopes around as nobody had luck finding David. Grace has to return back to the farm soon, when all of a sudden David finally comes home! He's surprised to see his grandma, who explains about the letter Big Bird forgot to give him. David says he's been to the movies and regrets not being there sooner. Right then and there Mr. Hooper whispers something to David, who shares what he's just been told: he's been given the next few days off from work, so now he can visit his grandma instead! Everyone cheers Mr. Hooper for saving the day as David goes to pack.
