Groove feels lonely after he comes back from a collecting trip, leading Iver to ask, "Who could keep Groove company while he's out collecting things?"

Tula suggests an animal could work, so Hubba Hubba shares some videos of various animals. Groove takes a liking to a stick bug, even though both Iver and Tula explain it wouldn't make a good pet. Tula makes some costumes so they can pretend to be different animals and figure out which would be the best pets. Meanwhile, Groove gets some advice from Tiddlypeeps and meets a rabbit.

After Tula and Iver pretend to be rabbits, Groove rules them out as potential pets, explaining that their constant hopping would distract him when he's out collecting. To give Groove another idea, Hubba Hubba shares the story of Percy, a boy who loves hearing his own voice and discovers a parrot is the perfect pet because it repeats everything he says.

Groove rejects the idea of a parrot as a pet, finding them much too talkative. Roma then reports from a stable to talk about ponies. She explains they require a lot of upkeep, so Groove decides a pony isn't for him. Groove visits the Tiddlypeeps once more to ask for help. He tells them he wants a pet with big eyes that can scamper and catch; the Tiddlypeeps suggest a dog.

Back at the Hoobmobile, Tula pretends to be a dog and has Groove throw a stick so she can fetch. Groove reasons that having to play fetch all the time means he wouldn't be able to concentrate on collecting. However, he realizes that a stick is the perfect pet for him — it looks just like a stick bug, and he can carry it around without it getting squished. The Hoobs sing a song recounting the episode's events before doing Hoob News.
