Picture Segment Description
SCENE 1 Maria finishes repairing a TV set. She tests it out just in time to see the ending of "The Big Trip," where a contestant dressed as a slice of pizza has just won a trip to Paris. Maria explains to David that the show awards people who show up in amazing costumes. Host Guy Smiley teases tomorrow's program, where the grand prize is an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Hawaii. Big Bird thinks he can get on the show and win the trip for himself and Mr. Snuffleupagus. Maria thinks if she and David go along too, and bring more of their friends, they might have a better chance of winning the trip for Big Bird.
SCENE 2 Big Bird dresses like a cowboy for the game show. Snuffy can't think of something he'd like to be dressed as, but cites Shirley Temple as someone he likes to pretend to be. Big Bird gives him the right things he needs to look like her.
SCENE 3 Maria dresses as a raggedy clown and asks Oscar if he has anything she could use, including a hat, tie and shoes. Oscar isn't certain she'll be picked on the game show, though - "They always pick some ding-a-ling in a crazy costume. You look gorgeous!"
SCENE 4 Gordon, Susan, Maria and Big Bird wait for David to come out with his costume. He finally arrives, dressed as a Christmas tree. They all can't figure out how to fit in Susan's car, so Gordon offers a solution - Big Bird rides in the car with himself and Susan, while Maria and David can take the bus. David feels embarrassed to be be in public dressed as he is.
SCENE 5 Everyone is in the audience at "The Big Trip" studio. Big Bird tries pointing out Snuffy to the others, who instead think he's referring to some other audience members. The show begins and Guy Smiley details the lovely Hawaiian trip they're giving away today. Guy scans the crowd for a contestant and chooses Big Bird, thinking he's actually an elaborate bird costume. Big Bird is given the challenge of finding five things that begin with the letter B. Big Bird heads into the audience and borrows a bell, banana, bow, and belt (a rope Maria is using as one). Guy points out that's only four items, when Big Bird notes his own name begins with B. Guy declares him the winner and Big Bird earns the free trip for two.
