	SCENE 1	Mr. Hooper tells Maria and Luis that David is out sick, so he's called a local employment agency to send someone over in his place. The agency didn't tell him anything beyond the fact that he's a man around Hooper's age and he has experience running his own store. A man, Mr. Ortiz, arrives, speaking Spanish and inquiring if this is where has been sent by the agency. As he hears Mr. Hooper describe the job, he becomes unsure of his place here - he doesn't speak English well and believes the agency made a mistake. Mr. Hooper claims that he knows a few Spanish words (showing off the store's "Se Habla Espanol" sign) and encourages the man to stay, even though he has some difficulty understanding him.

	SCENE 2	Mr. Hooper admits to Maria and Luis that things haven't been working out too well with Mr. Ortiz due to the language barrier. They have him imagine the situation being reversed, where the store is a Puerto Rican bodega under Mr. Ortiz's supervision and Mr. Hooper is unable to speak Spanish well. Mr. Ortiz helps his new employee by teaching him some basic Spanish words about the products they sell.
	SCENE 2 cont'd	Back in reality, Mr. Hooper uses this method to teach Mr. Ortiz some English words, as well as to learn some Spanish himself.

	SCENE 3	Oscar asks Mr. Ortiz to teach him some Grouchy phrases to tell Maria when she comes by. Luis translates for Mr. Ortiz and the two plan a trick. Mr. Ortiz delivers an angry-sounding, Spanish message to Oscar, who repeats it back to Maria. To Oscar's dismay, Maria gives him the English translation - "Maria, I think you're very pretty. Please come here and give me a great big kiss," which she does.
