The tenth episode of Mother Goose Stories retells the nursery rhyme of "Sing a Song of Sixpence." The story was adapted from the tale of "Sing a Song o' Sixpence" in L. Frank Baum's "Mother Goose in Prose."
Story[]
The Goslings are bored which prompts Mother Goose to tell them a story of Gilligren, a boy who used his imagination to bake birds into a pie.
Gilligren lived with his aunt and uncle, who only cared more for their money than Gilligren. One day, he asks his aunt and uncle for money to go to the King's coronation, resulting in only a sixpence coin.
Gilligren meets a seller who convinces the boy to trade his sixpence for a sack of rye. Gilligren accepts the proposition however the seller cheats him, giving him a sack that is almost empty - just a pocketful of rye.
Suddenly a flock of blackbirds descends to eat the rye and gets caught in the sack. Gilligren takes his birds to town where he meets a cook who wants to bake them into a pie for the king. Gilligren agrees to turn over the birds, on the conditions that the birds are not killed, telling the cook to place them in the pie buy don't bake it.
The pie with its live birds is served to the king. The king, wanting something different, is surprised and impressed with the pie full of singing birds. He praises Gilligren's idea and gives him a job as the royal page boy.
After the story, the Goslings are surprised when a mole pops out of the ground beneath them.
