SCENE 1 Olivia is minding after Hooper's Store while Mr. Hooper delivers groceries, when Bert approaches the counter to order a soda water. He'd like it flat, with no flavored syrup or ice cream in it. Olivia obliges, but goes out of her way to note that Bert must be the only person in the whole world who prefers his soda water that way.

A voice is then heard from off-camera, placing an order for plain, flat soda water. Olivia and Bert both freeze, then slowly turn to see Bertha; she looks almost exactly like Bert, but with long, black, stringy hair. Bert's jaw drops as romantic music swells.

Bertha confirms, and introduces Francine, who was not sick after all; just lonely, according to the doctor.
