SCENE 1 David, feeling full of energy today, feels like Hooper's Store could use some painting. Mr. Hooper approves the idea and David darts out to get some supplies.
Muppets Ernie & BertErnie won't let Bert into the apartment. Bert thinks he might be sad, and then Bert thinks Ernie might be hiding something from Bert, which makes him mad and demand to be let in. He comes in, and Ernie has thrown him a surprise party. Guests at the party include Roosevelt Franklin, Herbert Birdsfoot, Prairie Dawn, Sherlock Hemlock, Grover, Guy Smiley, and a mailman.

Street Fever
Insert David sings "Street Fever" as he finds rhythms in doing ordinary tasks, such as sweeping and hammering, around the city.
SCENE 2 Mr. Hooper sets out the ladder for David to use and finds David asleep on the counter. He wakes up and explains that he's too tired from all the activity he did between the paint store and Hooper's, suggesting they paint tomorrow.

David returns and admits he didn't have any change to use the phone, leaving Mr. Hooper and Maria bewildered.

SCENE 4 Sam the Robot is feeling jealous of his "baby brother," a small electric motor (named "Moe" for short). He resents the attention it receives for doing nothing of value, but David and Olivia help him understand Moe's potential and Sam's role as a big brother. Sam pictures young Moe becoming something important one day, like an airplane motor, then decides to take Moe back home and change his wet drip pan.

SCENE 5 David has gotten words that somebody in the neighborhood is looking for their lost dog and Barkley seems to fit the description. Even though Barkley doesn't belong to any known person on the street, everyone makes sure he is kept hidden. An Anything Muppet man, in safari gear and carrying a large net, comes by looking for his big, shaggy dog. He suspects there's a dog around, but everyone tries to deny it. Barkley emerges from hiding and the man informs them that Barkley is not his dog. He spots his actual dog down the block and dashes off after him. David remarks, "Talk about a shaggy dog story..."
