SCENE 1 Maria and David wait for Big Bird at a subway platform for a trip to visit her friend at City Island in the Bronx. Big Bird brings many beach accouterments, such as fishing rods, oars, a shovel and pail. David doesn't understand this, believing the area will be just like the rest of New York City and not resembling a shore of Florida. They ride the subway uptown and David is taken aback when he sees what a lush area City Island really is.
