SCENE 1 A garbage collector empties a can into a waste removal truck and starts to do the same for Oscar's trash can when Oscar the Grouch emerges from his sleep and explains that this particular can is his residence. Oscar reads the man's name tag, Bruno, and asks him to carry him over to a pile of junk before he replaces him.
SCENE 1, cont'd Oscar likes the idea of being carried around, so he asks Bruno to bring him over to Hooper's Store where he asks Mr. Hooper if his issues of "House Horrible" and "Grouch Confessions" have come in yet. Realizing that he's getting a change of scenery, Oscar asks Bruno to carry the rest of of the trash over — he's going to live outside of Hooper's Store from now on.

SCENE 2 Mr. Hooper says Oscar can live outside his store so long as he doesn't leave trash lying around the door. Oscar starts making lunch in his can (fried spinach à la mode: chocolate syrup, maraschino cherries, scallions, marshmallows, a dash of bitters, and some garlic), but it smells so awful, it scares customers away from the store. Mr. Hooper tells Oscar he has to move, so Oscar instructs Bruno to pick up house: "This boot was made for walkin'."

Ignoring the warning, Oscar throws a snowball, knocks the cop's hat off his head, and gets kicked out of the park.

Muppets Sesame Street News Flash: Kermit the Frog helps Don Music finish the "Yankee Doodle" song, then because Don finds the idea of calling feathers macaroni ridiculous, they rewrite it to be a song in which Yankee Doodle stays at home cooking for his pony, puts "fat spaghetti" in a pot and calls it macaroni. Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats then come in and perform the song with Don.

SCENE 6 Susan, Gordon, and the kids have just finished bundling together cans and newspapers in the arbor for a recycling drive when Oscar and Bruno pass by and notice all the junk. They dance together and sing about how much they each love cans. At the end, Bruno crashes into the organized recyclables and Susan kicks them out.

SCENE 7 Oscar and Bruno return to the original location of Oscar's can, feeling defeated after having been thrown out of every other area of Sesame Street. Bruno sets him down and says he has to go to work now... at the city dump. Oscar lights up and asks Bruno to take him along.
SCENE 7, cont'd Everyone on the street feels bad about kicking Oscar out of their spaces, so they head over to his can to let him know they still like him even though he's a pain sometimes. His can is gone, but they find a note explaining that he's off to the dump with Bruno. They all smile at Oscar finding a new friend.
