Big Bird hears her speaking Spanish to it, since her friend also speaks Spanish and Maria feels it would make the bird more comfortable. As she goes into the store, the canary (voiced by Sonia Manzano) talks to Big Bird in Spanish. Big Bird is able to learn the words for canary (canario), cage (jaula), birdseed (semillas), water (agua) and sing (canta).
