SCENE 1 Mr. Snuffleupagus sees Linda reading the newspaper in the yard and decides to go speak to her. Since she's facing away from him, he receives no response when he tries making conversation. He fears that she doesn't like him, but Big Bird clarifies that she couldn't hear him because she's deaf. Big Bird goes over and gets her attention with some basic signs to demonstrate, but Snuffy runs off to learn sign language before Linda can see him; once again, she thinks that Big Bird has a great imagination.

SCENE 2 Snuffy rushes back to Big Bird's nest and shows Big Bird a basic sign language greeting he learned from a book. He demonstrates the signs he can do using only his snuffle, so Big Bird runs out to get Linda and Timi who are outside conversing. However, Snuffy forgets how to make the signs and leaves to re-learn it, just missing the others who find no evidence of the Snuffleupagus. To make Big Bird feel better, Timi offers to pretend to be Snuffy and do a snuffle-esque greeting to Linda instead.
