	SCENE 1	Maria doesn't like the current heat wave, but Oscar does, saying it's the perfect weather for a Grouch like himself. They briefly discuss their differences until Oscar suggests that she go to Hooper's Store since it's air conditioned. Oscar admits to himself that the main reason Grouches enjoy the heat is because everyone else is inside to stay cool... so he yells at the viewer to go away as well.
	SCENE 1 cont'd	The camera follows Maria to Hooper's, and Olivia invites the viewer to come inside.

	SCENE 2	Basking in the heat, Oscar entertains himself by making noise with his car horn, jackhammer, and cassette tape of his elephants blaring. He finds that it isn't as much fun as he thought since everybody is inside the store keeping cool, and even regrets scaring away a bird as it was his only company. Oscar begins to feel very sad and lonely.

	SCENE 3	At Hooper's, Telly notices Oscar feeling sad, and suggests that everyone go over to him so he can annoy them and be happy. Everyone is reluctant, but Telly reminds him that Oscar is their friend, so they should help.
	SCENE 3 cont'd	Everyone follows Telly's suggestion, and subject themselves to the heat and Oscar's loud noises. Telly remarks to Maria, "I did good, huh?" as he beams with pride.

	SCENE 5	As familiar theme music plays, Big Bird passes by a well-dressed man reading while waiting in front of Hooper's Store. Big Bird wonders, "Where have I seen that face before?" before going into Hooper's.
	SCENE 5 cont'd	Big Bird announces to everyone that he's preparing to have a race around the block with Snuffy. Since everyone thinks Snuffy is imaginary and it's such a hot day, nobody agrees to judge the race. Luckily, the man in front of the store is willing to oblige.
	SCENE 5 cont'd	Big Bird goes to Snuffy at his nest area to give the low-down on the race, and soon they're off! Since Snuffy is so slow, however, Big Bird ends up way ahead and crosses the finish line.
	SCENE 5 cont'd	Big Bird suddenly fears that he may have hurt Snuffy's feelings by finishing before him. The man sees the issue from both sides, but points out that Big Bird can still be Snuffy's friend. Just then, the man has to leave, and it is at that point that Big Bird finds out who he was just talking to: Mr. Rogers!
	SCENE 5 cont'd	Snuffy comes to the finish line, and tells Big Bird that he doesn't feel bad for finishing last, because he knows that he and Big Bird are still friends. However, he doesn't believe Big Bird when he hears that Mr. Rogers judged the race. An upset Big Bird laments to Maria, "It was the most exciting day of my life, and I don't want to talk about it!" before storming off.

	SCENE 6	Mr. Rogers comes to visit Big Bird at his nest. Big Bird wonders if Mr. Rogers is really here, because no one believed him before. Mr. Rogers observes that sometimes it's hard to distinguish between fantasy and reality, and suggests that they both pretend some more. Big Bird imagines a teddy bear riding a unicycle, and realizes that he can't touch him - except in his imagination. On the other hand, he's able to confirm that Mr. Rogers is indeed real, and they both share a hug. Snuffy announces the sponsors as Big Bird introduces Mr. Rogers to his teddy bear Radar, and the credit crawl follows. So ends the 12th season of Sesame Street.
	CLOSING SIGNS	Bob and Linda hold the CTW sign, which appears by itself.
