SCENE 1 | Maria watches as Oscar, Grundgetta, and the Grouchketeers try a few dances for an upcoming Grouch dance contest. First, Oscar calls out a square dance while Grundgetta plays an out-of-tune fiddle. Then they attempt a polka, with Grundgetta on a dust-spewing accordion, but the Grouches aren't enthralled with either dance. Oscar brings up a can of musical instruments, which Maria discovers are castanets. She gives some to the Grouchketeers and shows them how a flamenco dance works. The Grouches like the snapping and stamping and think it'll make them instant winners. |
