Picture Segment Description

SCENE 1 Big Bird takes a stroll down Sesame Street, admiring the usual sunny day. Suddenly, he hears something and sees a flying saucer land in the yard behind the fence! He tells David, Luis, Maria, and the kids what he just witnessed: when the spacecraft landed, two bizarre creatures came out. One was tall and humanoid, the other was short and rolled around. David thinks he's mistaking reality for a movie he saw, while Luis suggests he go back to his nest to calm down his wild imagination.
SCENE 1 cont'd A few moments later, everybody is shocked when they see two droids quickly shuffle (and roll) by. "Who's imagining now?!" Big Bird exclaims.

SCENE 2 Big Bird and the others befriend the two droids, who introduce themselves as C-3PO and R2-D2. They have arrived because R2 is on a secret mission to deliver a message to someone on Sesame Street, but first they are in need of refreshments. Rather than getting some food at Hooper's Store, Maria and Luis get some oil from the Fix-It Shop to help the droids relax after their long journey. Maria pumps an oil can to lubricate C-3PO's various joints, while Luis pours a glass of brake fluid into R2-D2, who thanks them with a synthesized burp.

SCENE 3 With C-3PO translating, R2-D2 gives clues to David and two kids to guess who his message is for: someone who is shaggy, lives outdoors and indoors at the same time, and is very rude. David and the kids realize they mean Oscar the Grouch, and take the droids to see him. R2-D2 delivers his message to Oscar via a hologram sent from Lothar the Grouch, millions of miles away from one of the moons of Zircon. Lothar's message: "Oscar the Grouch... get lost!" Oscar replies, "Man, oh, man! What do you know? There is intelligent life in outer space!"

SCENE 4 Big Bird asks C-3PO and R2-D2 if robots have feelings, likening them to his friend Sam the Robot. C-3PO explains that they do, and recounts a time when he and R2 got separated then reunited that made them feel both sad and happy. Next, C-3PO tries to encourage R2 to show an angry expression. However, R2 doesn't feel like getting upset, which irks C-3PO enough to begin to rant; this helps Big Bird learn that droids can also get angry.

Luis helps blindfold Big Bird for the game, but Big Bird has trouble trying to identify his new droid friends by touch alone, mistaking R2-D2 for the mailbox and C-3PO for a lamppost. After he finally touches R2 (confusing him for the mailbox again), an exhausted Big Bird lifts his blindfold and suggests hopscotch instead...

David inspects the suspicious can of candy, which of course contains snakes that spring out everywhere. C-3PO is sure Lothar will appreciate the grouchy gesture, and he and R2-D2 board their ship. As Big Bird and his friends bid the droids good-bye, C-3PO announces the sponsors.

CLOSING SIGNS Susan holds the Sesame Street sign, while Gordon holds the CTW sign. R2-D2 gives an inquisitive bleep, and C-3PO adds "Well, how should I know what the Children's Television Workshop is?"
