SCENE 1 | Bob welcomes the viewer and notices that his watch has stopped. As he wonders what time it is, the pay phone outside his apartment rings. Bob answers it, but to his shock, the voice is not another person but from the telephone itself! The phone plays a prank on Bob, who slams the receiver down and tries to explain to David about the mysterious phone call, but David is skeptical and thinks it's the work of Oscar the Grouch. | |
SCENE 1 cont'd | Bob confronts Oscar, who denies any involvement with the talking telephone as he and Bruno have been at the junkyard all day. Bob doesn't believe him until the phone rings again with them present. Oscar and Bruno leave, and the phone tries to make up for its misinformation by giving Bob the correct time... with four deafening chimes. A shaken Bob hangs up the phone and makes a run for it when it starts to ring again. | |
