Big Bird greets the viewer as he prepares for his morning exercises. Nearby, he sees Gordon setting up to practice his flute. Big Bird remembers today is the day of a recital Gordon is playing it, and he naturally feels nervous about playing in front of people for the first time. Big Bird helps take his mind of the recital by having him exercise.
After the workout, a kid passes by the two. He's also playing in the recital, but he's nowhere near as nervous as Gordon is. Telly Monster runs in with Don Music and some Muppet musicians to help Gordon practice. Don can't manage to play Gordon's piece on the piano and feels frustrated. Gordon tries out a simple thing they can do - he plays a few notes on the flute, and Don repeats them back on piano. Soon, Don gets into the swing of things and the entire group breaks out into a jam session.
Big Bird presents the letter S, as Barkley (unknowingly) demonstrates various S words - including sniffing, sneezing, and sleeping (on Big Bird's feet).
Bob's apartment is readied for the recital, of which Gordon is the only non-child participant. A Bob begins his introduction, Oscar the Grouch and Bruno the Trashman appear at the door. Oscar has brought Fluffy to perform trumpet, as she is one of Bob's previous students. Oscar assures Bob that Fluffy hasn't been practicing any Grouch tunes, which means he won't be sticking around to hear any of it. Fluffy astounds everyone with a perfect-sounding fanfare on trumpet, as Oscar sighs, "All that talent goin' to waste."
As a child finishes their piano piece, Bob introduces the final performance by Gordon. He and Bob play a tune together and everyone congratulates him.
Everyone chats and has some post-show refreshments. Telly feeds Fluffy a peanut and Big Bird compliments the pianist. Bob also gives proper kudos to Gordon for his performance.
