Susan and Olivia witness as Slimey does his disappearing trick, which doubles as a lesson in "some," "none," and "all." He does the trick twice more, but Susan and Olivia begin to fret when Slimey doesn’t reappear during his last performance. Oscar, slightly worried, believes that this is Slimey’s favorite part of the trick: staying hidden.

Big Bird explains to him that Slimey is invisible today, which means he’s there but nobody can see him. Snuffy then thinks he must be invisible sometimes, since Big Bird’s friends never see him either. Big Bird, leaping at this exciting notion, fetches Olivia, Maria, and Susan over to his nest so they can see his "invisible" friend. Before they arrive, Snuffy remarks that he should “do what Slimey did” and leaves. When the group arrives, Big Bird calls out for Snuffy to reply but there's no response, nor can Maria feel him. "I like to keep an open mind," a curious Maria tells her skeptical friends before the grown-ups leave Big Bird, who continues looking for Snuffy.

Meanwhile, the women are hanging around the stoop; Maria listens to her walkman while Olivia and Susan decide which movie to see. As Susan and Olivia go inside to fetch their money (settling on seeing The Invisible Man), Maria stays to enjoy her music, completely oblivious when Snuffy comes out and stands beside her trying to call her attention. Snuffy returns to Big Bird frustrated, so Big Bird exits to confirm with Olivia and Susan that they still haven't seen him (having been inside the whole time). Knowing this, Big Bird starts thinking Snuffy might really be imaginary after all, and marvels at his own imagination!

He displays Snuffy’s snuffle-warmer and hat to Maria, thinking they’re also imaginary, but Maria confirms they’re real since they are tangible. By that logic, Snuffy is indeed as real as the clothes he wears! Olivia and Susan arrive, and Big Bird happily gives a speechless Maria credit for setting him straight that his friend is real.
