SCENE 1 Oscar welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street and shows the viewer his great new invention: "Grouch earplugs". With them, he can't hear anything, like Gordon and Susan arguing about important things they have to do. That doesn't help, so she decides to drop him off at the meeting, go off to do her errands, and then pick him up. Oscar realizes that without his Grouch earplugs, he can't hear what they're arguing about.

He follows Bert's advice to get a glass of water, but calls Bert again to thank him, and say he can't sleep. Bert suggests that he count sheep ... except Ernie doesn't hang up the phone.

He suddenly shows up and Bob believes that is who they've been waiting for. His name is revealed to be Ed (played by Ed Waterstreet). Bob helps carry his suitcases.
