Picture Segment Description


SCENE 1 Gordon is sitting on the stoop of 123 Sesame Street and reminisces with the viewer (in a flashback montage) about a time where he sat by Oscar's can and waited all day for Mr. Snuffleupagus. He decides he could take a walk over to Snuffy's cave so he could get to know him better, and brings the viewer along with him as he follows directions as written on a note.
Cartoon A mouse tries looking for his pet, describing to his friend what they did yesterday.

Muppets Ernie & Bert β€” Ernie can't sleep, so Bert tells him to count sheep. Ernie tries to count sheep, but it's dull -- so he starts counting fire engines. The noise from the imaginary fire engine wakes Bert up. Bert says that Ernie's waking up the whole neighborhood, and tells him to count something quieter. Ernie counts balloons -- but the balloon gets bigger and bigger, finally bursting with a huge explosion that wakes Bert up again.

SCENE 2 Gordon rings the doorbell and walks into the cave to find Mommy Snuffleupagus worried. He apologizes for barging in but is immediately offered a babysitting job for Snuffy due to his mother having to go to Carlsbad on a business trip for the Snuffleupagus Bank & Trust. Gordon is hesitant, but supposes babysitting could be a good way of getting to know Snuffy better, so he takes the job. He remembers he should tell Susan where he'll be, so he makes his way to the phone, which turns out to be huge.
Cartoon A man (voice of Richard Hunt) answers the TELEPHONE and gives it to the plant.

SCENE 3 Gordon and Snuffy wave goodbye to Mommy Snuffleupagus, and finally have the cave to themselves. Gordon suggests they play checkers and a variety of card games to help them get to know each other. Snuffy says he doesn't feel like playing those, and instead begins playing hide-and-seek while Gordon begins counting.

SCENE 4 Gordon calls for Snuffy after giving up looking for him. Before Snuffy can ask for another round, Gordon reminds him that it's getting closer to his bedtime and his Mommy wanted to help him do his homework. So, Gordon goes out to Snuffy's desk and pulls a big piece of paper, only reading the capital letter H. Gordon tries to help Snuffy pronounce the letter, to which he has difficulty, until Snuffy finally gets it right and completely blows Gordon away.
Cartoon Two boys peek into a fire house, and write HAT, HOSE, and HOOK on the window using their breath. Two dogs come by and wonder what a HAT HOSE HOOK is, but their question is answered when the fire truck leaves the station.

SCENE 5 Gordon remarks it's near bedtime. Snuffy is about to go brush his teeth, but Gordon asks if there is a spare toothbrush around. He finds one, which turns out to be too big for him, and wonders how he's supposed to brush his teeth with it- to which Snuffy explains step-by-step how to regularly brush teeth. "You know, Gordon, you're kind of making me feel like I'm the babysitter here," Snuffy notes.

SCENE 6 Snuffy is just about ready for bed when he reminds Gordon he has to sing the Snuffle Lullabye. Gordon doesn't know how to sing it, so Snuffy helps him through and they sing it together. Gordon remarks that a lullaby is supposed to put him to sleep, but Snuffy tells him the Snuffle Lullabye is supposed to keep him awake for his bedtime story.

So he does and then finds that he can even sing it the quietest. Bert then wonders what's going on and can't seem to go to sleep. Ernie then asks Bert if he's singing it to the extent that he can't hear him then why is he not asleep yet?

Gordon is almost about to leave again, but Snuffy tells him he isn't sleepy. Gordon suggests counting sheep, but Snuffy doesn't know how to count, so Gordon counts for him, nearly falling asleep throughout doing so.
