SCENE 1 Telly Monster and some kids hear some unique vocalizing; sounds they've never heard before on Sesame Street. They approach what Telly describes as "some kind of bird", a simplification the voice objects to, who introduces himself as Placido Flamingo from Santo Domingo, world famous opera star. He explains that opera is music β€” a singing story β€” and proceeds to lead Telly and the kids in a vocal lesson. After they get it right, Placido casts them in his all-flamingo opera. Telly is nervous about singing in front of people, but Placido encourages him to practice, and to "sing with feeling; sing with fire!"
Animation An orange pops out of a basket of fruits and gets "made up" as the face of Carmen, the role in the opera of the same name. While singing "Habanera," the famed aria from the opera, Carmen loses her "face" and can't resume singing until the wig returns.
